Century graduate, University of Sioux Falls standout has drawn the eyes of NFL scouts

Oct. 1—SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Is the NFL in Mark Leonard’s future?

Maybe.

“Of all the guys on our team, he is the one that has a chance,” University of Sioux Falls football coach Jim Glogowski said. “He falls in line with a lot of those NFL (tight ends) who are 6-foot-5, 250 pounds. Plus, he moves really well for a big guy.”

Glogowski is glad that if the former Rochester Century star does make it as a professional football player, that won’t happen until next year. He has at least six more games to enjoy Leonard as one of the top tight ends ever at the University of Sioux Falls.

The senior has made a big difference for the Cougars. Leonard was an All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference player last year, as well as an All-Academic choice in the NSIC. This season, he’s on pace for more accolades. In five games, Leonard has nine catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns, both of those two Saturday’s ago in a tough 28-24 loss to Bemidji State University. Leonard would have had a third TD last week had the football not been jarred from his hands after a catch and into the back of the end zone.

He is a touchdown maker. And not only that, but he’s also one of the more enjoyable players that Glogowski has coached.

“He is one of those guys who’s easy to pull for because he’s easy to be around,” said second-year Sioux Falls coach Glogowski, who noted that NFL scouts have inquired about Leonard. “He’s a great person, a fun-loving guy. He comes into my office and jokes around about being in the (transfer) portal. He’s got a sly sense of humor. He’s one of those guys who could have moved on from this program, but he chose to stay instead. He is the kind of kid you really want to see have success.”

Leonard has had plenty of it, taking no shortcuts en route.

The Century graduate showed up on the Sioux Falls campus looking vastly…
