Fantasy Football: Players to drop to help make room for Week 5 waiver wire pickups

Most fantasy football managers have no choice but to make room on their roster for their waiver wire pickups. That means saying goodbye to certain players. Here are some suggestions to cut ties with as we head into Week 5.

My patience has run out, Zamir White. I see your 17 carries and I raise, “I don’t care, get off my roster!” For real though, this might be the first time we’re dropping a player off a 17-carry game. But it’s just too much at this point. Even with all that opportunity, White scored just three points (thanks to an inefficient 50 yards and a fumble).

Cam Akers had his shot(s) at the starting role with Joe Mixon out and simply wasn’t good enough to stick around as a backup with Mixon likely to return next week.

And Gus Edwards looked involved if inefficient the first couple weeks, but has had fewer than seven carries in back-to-back games and totaled just 113 yards all year. There are insurance backs with more upside out there.

I had Matthew Stafford on this list last week and he’s still rostered in 50% of leagues. Let’s get that down to sub-50 so I can move on.

Additionally, Trevor Lawrence and Caleb Williams are better as D/ST targets than they are as fantasy plays. Unless you’re in a two-QB format, move on from both guys.

Also, Kirk Cousins is very close but has some good matchups coming up. Holding out hope.

I think we’re there on Dalton Schultz. He had his best game of the season in Week 4 … and it was still just three catches for 34 yards (with Tank Dell out). Hopefully, you have an alternative option at tight end and can move on from Schultz to make room for an upside player.

BONUS: At halftime of Sunday Night Football, I had Keon Coleman in here. He had been somewhere between nonexistent and terrible for the majority of the first…
