NCAA selects Canton to host the 2028 Stagg Bowl

The NCAA is bringing the Stagg Bowl back to Canton for a third time.

The Division III football championship game will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in 2028, the NCAA said this week when announcing more than 240 host sites for sports championships across Division I, II and III primarily for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

The Ohio Athletic Conference and Visit Canton will serve as hosts.

The 2025 Stagg Bowl also will be played in Canton. The 2026 and 2027 Stagg Bowls will be in Houston and Salem, Virginia, respectively.

The NCAA said it received more than 1,200 bids from member schools, conferences, cities and sports commissions across 47 states and Washington, D.C.

“The enthusiasm and interest from around the country to host NCAA championships continues to be a testament to the quality of our events,” Lynda Tealer, NCAA senior vice president of championships, said in a prepared statement. “For this cycle we incorporated more data into the process to help our sport and oversight committees through the evaluation and selection of sites as we had so many quality venues and locations looking to host during these two seasons.”

In addition to Canton serving as a host site, the University of Mount Union, located in Alliance, and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will serve as hosts for the 2027 Division III outdoor track and field finals at SPIRE Institute in Geneva.
