It’s been a long time since Penn State and UCLA met on the football field. How long? Well, the President of the United States was Lyndon B. Johnson, but even though there was an election coming a month later, he’d declined to be a part of it. Also, Joe Paterno was only in his third season as Penn State’s coach, and there were hippies everywhere you looked.

That’s right, it was 1968. Penn State beat UCLA 21-7 in Los Angeles, and oddly enough, it was the sixth-straight year the schools met. They were the only six games they’ve ever played. For whatever reason, they decided to get together six straight times, and never called one another again.

Further proof that long-distance relationships can be difficult.

Now that they share a conference, we’re slated to see many more meetings between them in the future, but what can we expect from this first contest as conference foes?
