Today is Oct. 3, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, Ricky Williams ran over the Iowa State defense.

As Texas improved to 3-2 during the 1998 season with a 54-33 win over Iowa State, Williams recorded 37 rushing attempts. Williams turned those 37 carries into 350 yards and five touchdowns.

Those 350 yards eclipsed Roosevelt Leaks’ school record of 342. Leaks originally set that record during a 1973 win at SMU.

Twenty-six years later, Williams’ 350-yard game against Iowa State remains a school record at Texas. In fact, there have been just four 300-yard rushing performances in UT’s history. D’Onta Foreman ran for 341 yards at Texas Tech in 2016. Williams complemented that 350-yard output with a 318-yard game against Rice during his 1998 Heisman Trophy-winning season.
