The No. 25 UNLV Rebels have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 college football season so far. They’ve gotten off to a 4-0 start amidst some off-field drama, and now Kyle McCord and the Syracuse Orange are coming to Sin City.

Last week was a chaotic one for the Rebels. Starting quarterback Matthew Sluka left the team over an NIL dispute, and Hajj-Malik Williams had to take over that role on short notice. All Williams did was put up 301 total yards with four total touchdowns while leading UNLV to a 59-14 blowout win over Fresno State.

Wide receiver Ricky White had to be happy with the change because he was targeted early and often. White caught 10 passes for 127 yards and a pair of scores. The duo of Williams and White might be a problem for opposing defenses moving forward.

Syracuse has gotten off to a strong start of its own, and McCord has been leading the way. The Ohio State transfer has connected on 64.4% of his passes for 1,459 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. In the Orange’s win over Holy Cross last weekend, McCord piled up 385 yards and four scores.

For the Orange, this game kicks off a series of tough road tests. After this game, Syracuse has to visit NC State and Pittsburgh, and its next home game isn’t until Nov. 2. The Orange have to get comfortable playing outside of the JMA Wireless Dome.
