Missouri State football’ and its’s upcoming move to Conference USA and the FBS continues to raise questions as to what the Bears are eligible for throughout this season and the next.

The Bears were ranked No. 25 in Monday’s updated FCS Coaches Poll. They’re 3-2 after winning their previous three games. They travel to Illinois State for a noon game on Saturday.

Is Missouri State football eligible for the FCS Playoffs?

No. The Bears aren’t eligible for the postseason due to the NCAA’s two-year transition rule that will make them ineligible for the 2024 FCS Playoffs and a 2025 bowl game upon becoming an FBS program.

Is Missouri State football eligible to make a bowl game in 2025?

Almost certainly no. The 2025 season will be the second year Missouri State will be ineligible for the postseason to satisfy the NCAA’s two-year transition rule.

In a rare circumstance, however, the Bears could become eligible if enough teams don’t qualify or decide not to play in a bowl game and MSU wins the required number of games.

Is Missouri State football eligible to win the Missouri Valley Football Conference?

Yes. The Bears are still eligible to compete for a Missouri Valley Football Conference regular-season championship despite being ineligible for the postseason.
