College football rankings: SEC teams in updated Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 after Week 7

The Southeastern Conference put together a strong showing in Week 7, with several teams either holding onto or improving their SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff odds.

In the first rendition of the Red River Rivalry as an SEC regular season game, No. 1 Texas came out with a 34-3 win at the Cotton Bowl against No. 16 Oklahoma. The win marks just the second win against the Sooners since 2020 for the Longhorns, who got back starting quarterback Quinn Ewers.

That wasn’t the only high-profile game in the SEC this week. Lane Kiffin and No. 8 Ole Miss went down to Death Valley looking for a win, but instead fell 29-26 in overtime against No. 10 LSU to win the Magnolia Bowl.

While it wasn’t perhaps circled as a “marquee” game on the Week 7 docket, South Carolina at No. 7 Alabama turned into one, as the Gamecocks nearly handed the Crimson Tide their first back-to-back regular season SEC loss since 2007. However, Alabama defensive back Domani Jackson picked off LaNorris Sellers in the winding seconds to give Kalen DeBoer’s squad its fifth overall win of the season.

Elsewhere, No. 9 Tennessee had to play some extra football on Rocky Top on Saturday to defeat Florida 23-17. Vols star running back Dylan Sampson scored the walk-off touchdown in overtime, his third of the game and 12th of the season.
