The Oregon football team climbs in the national rankings after victory against Ohio State

Oregon’s thrilling victory Saturday night against Ohio State gave it an expected boost in the national rankings Sunday morning.

The Ducks (6-0) moved up one spot to No. 2 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and The Associated Press media poll. It’s the highest ranking of the season for Oregon, which remains one spot behind No. 1 Texas (6-0).

In another first for the season, Oregon received first-place votes in both polls, as well. They got two of the possible 55 first-place votes in the coaches poll and six of the possible 62 votes in the AP poll.

The Buckeyes (5-1), who came into Autzen Stadium ranked No. 2 in both polls, dropped to No. 5 in the coaches poll and No. 4 in the AP poll after the 32-31 loss.

Penn State (6-0), which rallied to beat USC on Saturday, is ranked third in both, giving the Big Ten three teams in the top 5.

No. 4 Georgia (5-1), No. 6 Miami (6-0), No. 7 Alabama (5-1), No. 8 LSU (5-1), No. 9 Clemson (5-1) an No. 10 Tennessee (5-1) round out the top 10 in the coaches poll.

Other ranked teams from the Big Ten are No. 18 Indiana (6-0), No. 21 Illinois (5-1), No. 22 Michigan (4-2) and No. 25 Nebraska (5-1).

Also in the AP top 10 are No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Miami, No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 LSU, No. 9 Iowa State and No. 10 Clemson. Other ranked Big Ten teams in the AP poll are No. 16 Indiana, No. 22 Illinois and No. 24 Michigan.

The Ducks host the Illini on Oct. 26 and travel to Ann Arbor to face the Wolverines on Nov. 2.

Oregon also has a win against Boise State (5-1), which is No. 19 in the coaches poll and No. 15 in the AP poll.
