Where is Penn State ranked in the AP Top 25 after win over USC and Ohio State’s loss?

It was an eventful weekend of Big Ten football on the West Coast this weekend with Penn State and Minnesota each winning road games and Oregon defending its home field against Ohio State in one of the most anticipated games of the year. And with Penn State and Oregon remaining undefeated and Ohio State suffering its first loss of the year, the order of the Big Ten’s top teams was reset in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

After moving up to no. 3 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll, Penn State also took over the no. 3 spot in the AP poll, moving up one spot from its ranking a week ago. Penn State is one spot behind no. 2 Oregon, who also moved up one spot after its win over Ohio State. Ohio State fell two spots from no. 2 down to no. 4 to ensure the Big Ten still has three of the top four teams in the media poll. Texas remains no. 1 with 56 first-place votes in this week’s AP poll. Penn State’s lead over Ohio State in the AP poll is just 23 points.

The rest of the top 10 in this week’s AP poll after the trio of Big Ten teams included no. 5 Georgia, no. 6 Miami, no. 7 Alabama, no. 8 LSU, no. 9 Iowa State, and no. 10 Clemson. Despite winning its game against rival Florida in overtime, Tennessee fell out of the top-10 by dropping three spots down to no. 11.

Other Big Ten teams joining Penn State, Oregon, and Ohio State in this week’s AP top 25 are Indiana (no. 16), Illinois (no. 22) and Michigan (no. 24). Michigan is surrounded by service academies Army (no. 23) and Navy (no. 25) in this week’s AP poll. Nebraska is second among the others receiving votes in this week’s AP poll. Iowa and USC also received votes in the AP poll.
