Saquon Barkley says goodbye to Giants fans after signing with rival Eagles

Saquon Barkley’s time with the Giants officially came to an end this week as he signed a three-year deal worth up to $46.75 million with the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.

The star running back announced the signing himself by tweeting with Eagle emojis.

While speaking with reporters during Thursday’s introductory press conference, Barkley admitted that things were hectic at the moment but he certainly could’ve handled it better with a proper goodbye.

And just a few hours later, the 27-year-old issued that goodbye to the organization and fans saying:

“The last three days have been a whirlwind of emotion. I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge all of the Giant fans that have supported me and my family over the last six years. When I was drafted here I wanted my impact off the field to rival the accomplishments we had on it, and I can only hope that I came close to doing that.

“I’m forever grateful to the Mara and Tisch family and the wonderful people working in the Giants organization. The fans in New York and New Jersey will forever hold a place in my heart. Ultimately, the NFL is a business, and I hope that everyone can respect my decision.”

The Giants selected Barkley with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Penn State product took the league by storm, being named to the Pro Bowl and taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after posting a stellar 2,028 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns.

Barkley battled injuries for the remainder of his time in blue, but when healthy he remained one of the team’s most consistent offensive pieces, despite running behind a relatively lackluster offensive line.

He ended his Giants tenure with a total of 7,311 yards from scrimmage and 47 touchdowns across 1,489 touches.
