Jones junior quarterback Dereon Coleman committed to the University of Miami on Wednesday.

“Miami just fits my personality and my gameplay,” Coleman said. “My whole life I’ve trained to be a Miami Hurricane. From the early days of training with my dad in my front yard and in random parks, to competing with my brothers in everything I did, to transitioning when I was 10 years old to my current quarterback trainer, Baylin Trujillo, who is a massive Miami Hurricanes fan. I was always told one day I’ll be representing the green and orange.”

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Coleman split time with Trever Jackson, a 2023 Elite 11 finalist and current Florida State quarterback, last season. He completed 63.4 percent of his passes last season for 2,236 yards and 16 touchdowns and also rushed for 247 yards and four scores.

“Dereon Colemon is a phenom,” Trujillo said. “I have no problem saying this because I train a lot of the top quarterbacks in the country in his specific 2026 class. He is the most explosive arm talent I’ve ever trained.

“I always joked with him that he will be my first Miami Hurricane quarterback and that’s how I trained him.”
