Four-star DE Damien Shanklin commits to LSU

Damien Shanklin will be a LSU Tiger.

The Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central four-star defensive end announced his pledge to the Tigers on Friday. He took official visits to Tennessee, Ohio State and Alabama in addition to his trip to Baton Rouge. Shanklin originally planned to commit on Aug. 29 but moved his date up since he knew LSU was the place for him.

Shanklin is the 14th commitment for LSU’s 2025 recruiting class that currently sits inside the top 15 nationally. It’s a small class so far but is very star-studded with some of the best players in the country heading to LSU.

WHAT SHANKLIN MEANS FOR LSU

Pass rushers are gold in the SEC.

You can’t win at a high level in that conference without elite pass rushers. Landing Shanklin is a huge win for coach Brian Kelly and his staff. Beating out Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio State for a big-time recruit is even better.

The Tigers aren’t a program that you see reaching into the Midwest often. So when they do it’s usually for a player with NFL Draft pick potential. Shanklin is a prospect that has the potential to be a riser in our next rankings refresh because he’s relentless on tape with strong production to match.

He posted 66 tackles and 17 TFL as a junior.

WHAT SHANKLIN BRINGS TO THE TIGERS

LSU is a program that has a strong history of producing very athletic defensive players. Shanklin fits that mold perfectly and looks like an LSU pass rusher. He’s more long and lean at this point but will continue to fill out through his college career.

Shanklin gives great and consistent effort on film which you can’t coach. He’s not just making plays because of effort though. He’s got an array of pass moves which are advanced for his age. The future Tiger also has good bend to beat offensive tackles off the edge.
