Texas is the No. 2 pick in the 2024 SEC preseason media poll behind Georgia

Texas was the No. 2 pick in the preseason SEC media poll released Friday as well as voters’ second-favorite choice to win the SEC championship, though only two Longhorns earned a spot on the preseason first team.

Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss were the first four teams in the poll.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian talks with quarterback Quinn Ewers during a game last season. The Longhorns had 13 players among the media’s preseason ALL-SEC picks, and Ewers was a second-team selection.

Left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., a possible top-10 pick in next year’s NFL draft, and kicker Bert Auburn were Texas’ two first-team players. Second-teamers were quarterback Quinn Ewers, running back CJ Baxter, wide receiver Isaiah Bond, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., defensive backs Jahdae Barron, Andrew Mukuba and Malik Muhammad and kickoff specialist Will Stone. Center Jake Majors was a third-team selection as was defensive lineman Trey Moore and return specialist Jaydon Blue.
