Gaffney quarterback Jayvon Gilmore commits to Arksansas

Gaffney junior quarterback Jayvon Gilmore committed Thursday to Arkansas.

Gilmore is considered the state’s best high school football quarterback and No. 4 overall player in the junior class, according to 247Sports. He is a three-star prospect ranked by that recruiting site as the No. 18 quarterback in the country for the 2026.

He is a transfer from Ben Lippen, where he passed for 1,767 yards and 22 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

Gilmore (6-foot-5, 196 pounds) also has offers from Boston College, East Carolina, Louisville, N.C. State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and UCF. The others are Austin Peay, Charlotte, Miami (Ohio), South Carolina State and Troy.

He is making the jump from SCISA (independents) to SCHSL Class AAAAA. Gaffney plays in Region 2 with Boiling Springs, Byrnes, Dorman, Eastside, Riverside, Spartanburg and Wade Hampton.

Gaffney last season went 9-4, 3-1. The Indians won seven of their last nine games, losing only to Byrnes and then eventual state champion Dutch Fork in the playoffs.

Westside’s Cutter Woods, considered the state’s No. 2 quarterback for 2025, is committed to South Carolina after switching from Wake Forest. The No. 1 QB in the class, Will Wilson of Richland Northeast, committed to N.C. State.
