Litrenta staff busy tracking down future Tigers

Aug. 3—East Central head football coach John Litrenta and members of his coaching staff have been keeping the recruiting trail hot this summer.

At mid-year, the Tigers added 15 transfers to the roster and those new players were able to go through spring practices with the team.

Since then, Litrenta and company have brought in 16 more transfers and will add 35 incoming freshmen this fall.

“Recruiting has been very good and very busy,” Litrenta told The Ada News. “Summer workouts have been good but they are just an extension of what we have been doing through the winter and spring.”

Litrenta estimates around 85-92 players have been on campus this summer. The entire team will report to Ada on Aug. 9 and 135 Tigers are expected to be roaming around Koi Ishto Stadium at that time. The first helmets-only practice is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 10.

Litrenta is excited to kick things off later this month and looks forward to fleshing out the depth chart.

“Our priorities are to continue to sharpen and develop depth. This fall camp will be a battle each day,” he said. “We have been physical in the way we have done things since December and it won’t change. I want to continue to develop our attitude, discipline, and accountability.”

Under Litrenta’s short watch, executing the Xs and 0s on the field has been better and better. This fall, one of the big areas of concentration will be on the intangibles.

“The football play has improved but we are focusing on the other areas because when we are better in those areas, playing the game will happen at a higher level consistently,” he said.

The Tigers will wrap up the preseason with a scrimmage on Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. East Central is scheduled to kick off the season at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, when Henderson State visits Norris Field.
