College football analyst Joel Klatt has Texas No. 3 in preseason ranking

With less than a month before the start of the college football season, preseason predictions, polls and prognostications are in full swing. After last season’s playoff appearance and a new conference in the SEC, Texas fans will be checking preseason polls more than their stock portfolio in the next few weeks. 

The new US LBM Coaches Poll ranks the Longhorns No. 4, behind Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon. The AP poll will be released next Monday at Noon ET. 

But several of the big voices in college football are also giving their take as they preview the 2024 season, including Joel Klatt. The lead Fox Sports college football analyst is high on the Longhorns ranking them No. 3, in front of the 4th ranked Ducks. 

Klatt says, “We can stop with the ‘Texas is back’ stuff. Texas is just one of the best teams in the country. We saw that last year. They came out there and rolled it up and they played great.”  

The former Colorado QB thinks Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is building a lasting program in Austin, “Sark has built a top-tier, upper-echelon team, regardless of conference. This whole ‘Whoa, How are they going to do in the SEC?’ They’re going to do fine. They are really good. Did you not see them roll into Tuscaloosa and beat the Tide in Alabama last year?”

Klatt says the program continues to improve, “Sark has gone from five wins in his first year, to eight in his second, to 12 last year. That just is going to continue.”

Klatt thinks this will be a banner year on the 40 acres, “This is a playoff team. This is a team that can win the SEC. Quinn Ewers is back for his third year as a starter. This is a guy that can win the Heisman Trophy…
