Giants’ initial 53-man roster set for 2024 NFL season after series of moves

The Giants and the rest of the NFL had until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to trim their rosters to 53 players, and for the G-Men to get there they had to make some surprising decisions.

Wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Allen Robinson were part of the cuts.

Big Blue originally claimed Hodgins off waivers two seasons ago and he came in and was an immediate contributor, hauling in 33 receptions for 351 yards and four touchdowns down the stretch.

He remained productive last season but saw his role decrease a bit with younger talent being added to the mix, as he started just nine games and was targeted 33 times.

He was expected to take on even less of a role this season after New York selected star wideout Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick and brought back veteran Darius Slayton on a one-year deal.

Hodgins has been working with the second-team offense throughout camp, and when the rest of the starters remained sidelined for this weekend’s preseason finale, he was in action.

Robinson, signed by the Giants in May, seemed to have a shot at sticking on the roster as a veteran presence for an otherwise young group, but the Penn State product apparently didn’t do enough in camp to make the team.

CB Darnay Holmes, LB Darrian Beavers, and RB Dante Miller have also been cut.
