Friday Night Notes: Bryce Underwood goes off, Auburn hosting notable names

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school football recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2025 to ’26 and beyond.

The last week didn’t feature many new commitments but one massive name came off of the board. We also saw several more states kick off their high school football seasons.

Auburn has a huge weekend planned and Lane Kiffin is back to doing Lane Kiffin things on Twitter.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into that in the latest edition of Friday Night Notes.

LSU commitment Bryce Underwood starts senior year off with a bang

Bryce Underwood may not have even been born when Vince Young led Texas’ comeback against USC in the 2006 national title game, but the nation’s No. 1 overall player did his best impersonation of the Texas legend Friday night.

Tied with Clarkston at 28 with just over a minute remaining, Underwood broke loose for what would be the game-winning 55-yard touchdown run. He would finish the night rushing for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.

Underwood also threw for two touchdowns accounting for all four of the Tigers’ touchdowns on the night.

Texas’ wide receiver room just keeps loading up

Texas’ wide receiver room added one of the nation’s best earlier in the month landing in-state five-star prospect Kaliq Lockett. They added another five-star recruit to that room on Friday.

Jaime Ffrench, the No. 4 wide receiver in the 2025 class, announced his commitment to the Longhorns early Friday morning. He chose the Longhorns over LSU, Miami and Tennessee.

Ffrench ended his commitment day scoring a touchdown in Mandarin’s 47-0 win over Atlantic Coast.
