Texas A&M vs. Bowling Green: No word on if Conner Weigman or Marcel Reed will start

Texas A&M football head coach Mike Elko was noncommittal about his quarterback situation during a Wednesday conference call with reporters.

As the 6:30 p.m. Saturday kickoff draws closer, Elko was asked about the quarterback situation and chose not to reveal who will be under center when the Aggies take on Bowling Green in Week 4.

Conner Weigman, who started the first two games, was kept out of Saturday’s Week 3 matchup with the Florida Gators, leading to a breakout performance for backup quarterback Marcel Reed. Reed accumulated more than 250 yards of offense and three touchdowns in the 33-20 win that moved the Aggies to No. 24 in US LBM Coaches Poll.

Will Conner Weigman start for Texas A&M football this week vs. Bowling Green?

Reed’s performance and Weigman’s injury spurred questions regarding the starting quarterback’s availability and the team’s plan for Saturday night.

“There are no updates on the plans for Saturday; imaging turned out good,” Elko said.

Much like Saturday in Gainesville, it appears A&M could wait until game time before any declaration is made regarding the starting quarterback against the Falcons.

Conner Weigman didn’t play Saturday while dealing with a shoulder injury. The highly recruited sophomore is 23-for-44 this season for 225 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Aggies believe in Marcel Reed if he is called upon once again

Some programs would be on pins and needles if they were unsure of their starting quarterback’s availability. However, Texas A&M isn’t one of them.

“I don’t think there is any part of the playbook he can’t run,” Elko said Wednesday.

From Elko on down to Reed’s teammates, there is a real confidence that the young signal-caller can get the job done…
