Missouri vs. Vanderbilt score: No. 7 Tigers survive Commodores’ upset bid in double-OT thriller

USATSI

No. 7 Missouri survived an upset bid from Vanderbilt with a 30-27 win in double overtime win in both teams’ SEC conference opener. Missouri kicker Blake Craig redeemed himself after missing three field goals in regulation by nailing a 37-yard go-ahead kick, and Vanderbilt kicker Brock Taylor missed a 31-yard field goal wide left that would’ve sent the game to triple overtime.

The Commodores came into the weekend riding a 16-game losing streak against ranked opponents and had lost their last 12 SEC openers. Vanderbilt’s losing streak against ranked opponents on the road extended to 31 with the loss.

After Vanderbilt opened the first overtime with a quick touchdown drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown pass from Diego Pavia to Gabe Fisher, Missouri immediately responded with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Brady Cook to star wide receiver Luther Burden.

Burden finished the day with a team-high six catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Missouri will have a bye before traveling to College Station on Oct. 5 to face No. 25 Texas A&M. Vanderbilt will also have a bye week before hosting No. 4 Alabama on the same weekend.
