4 things Alabama football fans should know about Georgia before SEC opener

SEC play opens in a big way Saturday night for Alabama football.

The No. 4 Crimson Tide will host No. 1 Georgia in its first conference game of the 2024 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium on ABC.

The Bulldogs will be Alabama’s first SEC opponent in the Kalen DeBoer era, who took over the Crimson Tide after Nick Saban’s retirement. In Saban’s 17 years as Alabama coach, he lost to Georgia twice.

Here are three things to know about the Bulldogs heading into Alabama-Georgia on Saturday.

Georgia football has not lost many games in recent memory. The Bulldogs will carry a streak of 42 regular-season wins to Bryant-Denny Stadium which started Nov. 21, 2020, two weeks after a home loss to Florida.

But in that time, Alabama has gotten the better of Georgia twice: the 2021 and 2023 SEC championship games. In 2021, the Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs 41-24 in Atlanta, helped by three touchdowns from Bryce Young and an interception returned for a score from Jordan Battle. Alabama went on to lose to Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship game Jan. 10, 2022.
