Missouri football plummets in national polls after loss at Texas A&M

The Tigers weren’t immune to some carnage.

Missouri football dropped nine spots to No. 18 in the US LBM Coaches Poll after falling to Texas A&M 41-10 on Saturday in College Station, Texas. The poll was released Sunday morning.

Mizzou had not dipped below the No. 11 mark in the poll before the Week 6 rankings drop, which is where the Tigers were ranked in the preseason poll. Mizzou is now the ninth-ranked SEC team in the rankings.

Eli Drinkwitz’s team wasn’t the lone victim on a wild day for teams ranked in the coaches poll. Four teams in the top 15 and six teams in the top 25 lost to unranked opposition.

Formerly No. 2 Alabama lost to unranked Vanderbilt and fell to No. 7; ex-No. 4 Tennessee lost to unranked Arkansas and dropped to No. 9; No. 10 Michigan lost to unranked Washington and is now No. 21; and No. 15 USC lost to unranked Minnesota and is now out of the top 25. No. 23 UNLV lost to Syracuse on Friday, and No. 22 Louisville fell to SMU.

Texas A&M, which was No. 21 when it knocked off Mizzou, climbed seven spots to No. 14.

Texas remained No. 1 in the country in the coaches poll, while Ohio State moved up to No. 2. Oregon is third in the poll, Georgia is No. 4 and Penn State rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Ole Miss moved back into the top 10 after beating South Carolina on the road, taking the No. 8 spot. LSU and Oklahoma benefitted from idle weeks, moving up to Nos. 10 and 16, respectively.
