Updating Oregon’s rankings in college football polls entering its game against Ohio State

It was a chaotic weekend in college football as upsets reigned on a wild Saturday of games.

On Friday, however, Oregon handled its business against Michigan State, winning 31-10 at Autzen Stadium.

Those two factors contributed to a bump in the national rankings Sunday morning for the Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten), as well as for Ohio State (5-0, 2-0), which heads to Eugene this Saturday for a highly anticipated 4:30 p.m. game that will also feature the presence of ESPN’s “College GameDay” pregame show.

Oregon moved up three spots to No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, and in the Associated Press Top 25 media poll.

The Buckeyes went from No. 3 to No. 2 in both polls as well.

Both benefited from losses by several top-10 teams on Saturday, as then-No. 2/1 Alabama lost to Vanderbilt, then-No. 4/4 Tennessee lost to Arkansas, then-No. 9/9 Missouri lost to Texas A&M and then-No. 10/10 Michigan lost to Washington in a rematch of last season’s national championship game.

Then-No. 15/11 Southern California also lost to Minnesota, keeping the Trojans from possibly climbing into the top 10.

With that, the reshuffled top 10 in the coaches poll now has Texas (5-0) holding at No. 1, then Ohio State and Oregon, with Georgia (4-1) at No. 4 followed by No. 5 Penn State (5-0), No. 6 Miami (6-0), No. 7 Alabama (5-1), No. 8 Ole Miss (5-1), No. 9 Tennessee (4-1) and No. 10 LSU (4-1).

Also from the Big Ten are No. 20 Indiana (6-0), No. 21 Michigan (4-2) and No. 23 Illinois (4-1), with USC, Nebraska, Washington, Rutgers and Iowa also receiving votes.

The AP top 10 also has Texas at No. 1, along with No. 4 Penn State State, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Miami, No. 7 Alabama, No. 8…
