Michigan football staffer to remain after verbal altercation with Washington fans

A Michigan football staffer who was seen on video getting into a verbal altercation with Washington fans on Saturday evening will remain with the program.

Chris Bryant, the program’s director of high school relations, was captured on camera approaching fans in the Husky Stadium stands in Seattle and using profanity in their direction some time during the Wolverines’ 27-17 loss to the Huskies over the weekend.

“We became aware of an interaction between Washington fans who were harassing our players by using over the top and offensive language,” the program said in a statement via associate athletic director Dave Ablauf. “It was an unfortunate situation and should not have happened. Our staff member should have asked the stadium staff to handle the matter rather than act in the emotional manner with which he did at that time.

“This is disappointing and we will handle the matter internally as a program.”

It is unclear what was said to Bryant, who was an offensive lineman with the Wolverines from 2011-13. The video only shows how he responded. The video contains language that is not appropriate for all audiences and NSFW.

“Whatever you got going on, you better chill the (expletive) out before you get (expletive) up,” Bryant yelled.

Michigan (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten), which saw its 27-game conference winning streak (which dated to October 2021) snapped, is on a bye this week before it gears up for its next contest, also on the road at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at No. 23 Illinois (4-1, 2-1).
