Oregon Ducks star Jordan Burch ‘uncertain’ for Week 7 showdown vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

The No. 3 Oregon Ducks are heading into their biggest game of the season later today against the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes, and they may have to do it without one of the best players on their roster.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and confirmed by sources of my own, defensive end Jordan Burch is uncertain to be able to play on Saturday night after suffering a “lower-body injury” in practice on Thursday during practice.

I am told that Burch suffered a knee injury that could potentially hold him out for 4-6 weeks. There is a chance that the Ducks test him out pregame on Saturday and push him to play against Ohio State in this first-ever top-five showdown in Autzen Stadium.

However, with the new 12-team College Football Playoff, a loss in this game does not hurt Oregon’s postseason chances as much as it would have in years past. That thought is playing a factor, I’m told, in whether or not they push Burch to play to a point where he could potentially worsen the injury.

The official Availability Report will be released by the school at 2:30 p.m. PT, two hours before kickoff. On that, Burch will either be listed as “out” or “questionable,” if he is listed at all.

Either way, it’s clear that the Ducks’ No. 1 defender, who has a career-high five sacks already this year, is dealing with an injury that could limit him on Saturday if he is to play at all.
