LSU football fans stormed the field at Tiger Stadium on Saturday after Garrett Nussmeier threw a game-winning touchdown pass in overtime to knock off Ole Miss, at that point ranked No. 8 in the nation.
But LSU’s postgame victory celebration came with a hefty payout to the Rebels.
On Sunday, the Southeastern Conference announced that LSU (5-1, 2-0) was fined $250,000 as a second violator of the conference’s access to competition area policy.
LSU, which moved from No. 10 to No. 8 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, will pay Ole Miss the $250,000 fine, per SEC policy. Ole Miss (5-2, 1-2) dropped from No. 8 to No. 15.

The SEC updated its access to competition area policy at the conference’s spring meetings in 2023.
“Institutions shall limit access to competition areas to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly credentialed or authorized individuals at all times,” the SEC’s policy reads. “For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest may spectators enter the competition area.”
Financial penalties range from $100,000 for a first offense, $250,000 for a second offense and $500,000 for three or more offenses. LSU’s first violation of the SEC’s access to competition area policy came in February following LSU basketball’s upset victory over No. 17 Kentucky.
