The puck has dropped on the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs as the the Presidents Trophy-winning New York Rangers swept the Washington Capitals in the first round and are now hold a 3-2 lead on the early Cup favorite Carolina Hurricanes following the Canes’ win on Monday to force a Game 6 in Carolina.
The Florida Panthers had claimed the mantle of Cup favorites after a taking three straight games for a 3-1 lead in their series with the Boston Bruins, but the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche for a third straight time on Monday to take a 3-1 series lead heading home and have a slight edge on the Panthers as the Cup favorites.
Meanwhile in western Canada, the Vancouver Canucks took a 2-1 series lead against the Edmonton Oilers with win on Sunday.
